3A Word Sort (Vocab,, Phonics)
Standard: R.F.2.3Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
Directions:The teacher will demonstrate a word sort such as alphabetically. The students will then break into groups and decide other patterns or categories that the words could be sorted by. Once they have had time to work with the words they will show their favorite sorted list to the class. The class will then try to find the pattern that the group picked.
Assessment: Will be based on participation of making and identifying lists. The teacher will observe the students working in small groups.

Assessment: Student will be assessed on the completion of the chart based on details from the story, along with the connection between the word and example.

Directions: As you read through the story write down words that you do not know, not quite sure what it means or you just found interesting. Put the word in the proper alphabetical square. Try to have at least 2-3 words in each box. The trickier letters like x,y,z you may not find as many for.
Assessment: Students will be assessed on the completion of the calendar.

Standard: W.2.3 Write narratives in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.
Directions: On newspaper below.
Assessment: Grading will be based on proper grammar and spelling. Along with making sure the main points of the story are retold. There will also be a few points for the newspaper creativity.
2C Sketch to Stretch (Fluency, Comprehension)
Standard: R.I.2.7 Identify the main purpose of a text, including what the author wants to answer, explain, or describe. R.F.2.4 Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.
Directions:Pick a passage or sentence from the book that you found to be a key point in the book. Then take the passage and draw it. Make sure to include as many descriptive details as possible in your drawing. Be prepared to read your passage to the class and share your drawing.
Assessment: Assessment will be based on the students retelling of the passage. This picture and passage must have the same meaning.

Standard: S.L.2.2 Recount or describe key ideas or details from a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media. S.L.2.5 Create audio recordings of stories or poems; add drawings or other visual displays to stories or recounts of experiences when appropriate to clarify ideas, thoughts, and feelings.
